January is the lowest-fare month to sail Norwegian Cruise Line from most U.S. winter and year-round homeports, including Miami, Port Canaveral, New Orleans and Honolulu, where solo inside fares have typically run about 13-19% below each port's yearly norm 90 days before departure (2024-2026 departures, subject to change). Norwegian's summer-season ports follow a different rule: fares from New York have run lowest in March, from Boston in May, and from Seattle at the September-October end of the Alaska season. The most expensive month also differs by port, from April spring break in Miami and New Orleans to July in New York and Port Canaveral and June in Seattle.

How we source these figures: CabinSaver tracks published Norwegian Cruise Line fares daily and has recorded 1,051 solo pricing snapshots between December 10, 2023 and September 30, 2026. The month rankings compare 1,359 Norwegian departures of 3-9 nights from 11 U.S. homeports that sailed between January 2024 and September 2026, using each sailing's inside-cabin fare for one traveler at single occupancy (which includes the single supplement) about 90 days before departure, indexed against that port's median for the same year so fare increases between years do not distort the months. The 2027 ranges reflect 783 Norwegian departures from 14 U.S. ports, drawn from 365 snapshots between October 1, 2025 and September 30, 2026, and are subject to change. The usual advice is to avoid summer and school breaks, and from some ports that holds. From others it is wrong: Miami's July sailings have priced close to its yearly norm, while New Orleans charges its steepest premium in April, when most Gulf Coast spring breaks fall. The patterns below come from nearly three years of daily fare tracking, measured at the point most people actually book rather than from brochure prices a year out.

Year-Round vs. Seasonal U.S. Ports in 2027

Whether a port has a "lowest month" at all depends on when Norwegian sails from it. The 2027 schedule splits the 14 U.S. ports into three groups:

  • Year-round: Miami (225 Norwegian sailings), Port Canaveral (153), Honolulu (57), New York (50) and Philadelphia (43) have Norwegian departures in every month of 2027.
  • Winter only: Tampa and San Diego sail January through April; Galveston, New Orleans, San Juan and Jacksonville sail January through April and again in November and December; Los Angeles sails January through May and September through December.
  • Summer only: Seattle and Boston sail April through October.

For a winter-only port, the choice is between a handful of months, and the post-holiday January dip still applies. For Seattle and Boston, the low end of the season sits at its edges.

Why Your Home Port Changes the Answer

Three different calendars drive fares from U.S. ports, and each port answers to one of them.

Winter Caribbean ports dip right after the holidays. For Norwegian sailings from Miami, Port Canaveral and New Orleans, January has been the lowest-fare month, about 13-15% below each port's norm, once Christmas and New Year's demand clears. The same ports peak around April, when spring break and Easter overlap: about 19% above the norm in Miami and about 66% above it in New Orleans.

Northeast and Alaska ports run lowest outside high summer. Norwegian's New York fares have run about 33% below the yearly norm in March, Boston's about 17% below in May, and Seattle's about 19% below in October. All three peak in high summer, when school is out and the weather is most dependable.

Honolulu follows its own pattern. Pride of America sails Hawaii all year, and Norwegian's Honolulu fares have run lowest in January (about 19% below the norm) and highest in September (about 18% above), with little movement in between.

From cruises out of Miami, the summer premium is small: July has run only about 4% above the yearly norm. The summer jump is far sharper 200 miles north at Port Canaveral, where July has run about 21% above.

Lowest and Highest Fare Months by Port

Here is how fares by month compare for Norwegian Cruise Line's seven U.S. homeports with enough 2024-2026 history to rank their main sailing months. The percentages compare each month with that port's own yearly norm for 3-9 night solo inside fares 90 days before departure (2024-2026 departures). The last column shows 2027 fares for solo travelers at single occupancy as of September 2026 (subject to change):

Winter and Year-Round Ports

The January low has held up across years: it was Miami's lowest or second-lowest month for Norwegian sailings in each of 2024, 2025 and 2026, and New Orleans' lowest in all three. Early 2027 pricing agrees. January 2027 Norwegian sailings from Miami typically run approximately $130-195 per night for solo travelers at single occupancy, compared with approximately $163-229 in April 2027 and approximately $228-337 in December 2027 (as of September 2026, subject to change). From Port Canaveral, January 2027 runs approximately $133-151 per night against approximately $263-383 in July 2027 (same basis and date).

Summer-Season Ports

Seattle's June or July was its most expensive month in each of the three years tracked, and Boston's June ranked among its two highest each year. From New York, March was among the two lowest months in all three years, on early-season 5-8 night Bermuda and Bahamas sailings. For Seattle, that pattern makes the shoulder weeks the best-priced way into the Alaska season: Norwegian's September Seattle sailings have run about 10% below the norm and its April sailings about 8% below.

Ports Without Enough History to Rank Months

Tampa, Galveston, San Juan, Los Angeles, Jacksonville, San Diego and Philadelphia have too few tracked Norwegian departures per month to rank them reliably. Their 2027 schedules and fares for solo travelers at single occupancy as of September 2026 (subject to change):

Planning Tips

  • Match the month to your home port, not to general advice. A traveler leaving from Miami gives up little by sailing in July, while one leaving from New York or Port Canaveral faces the steepest summer premium in the data.
  • Expect cold-weather embarkation for low-fare Northeast months. New York's March sailings leave in late-winter conditions, so plan for a chilly first and last day at sea before reaching warmer waters.
  • Weigh hurricane season against fall shoulder fares. September and October sailings from Florida and the Gulf fall within the Atlantic hurricane season (June through November), when itineraries can change on short notice. Review your cruise line's policies and consider travel insurance.
  • Pack layers for shoulder-season Alaska. Seattle's lower-fare April, May, September and October sailings typically see cooler and wetter weather than mid-summer.
  • Book drive-to ports early for January. January is the lowest-fare month at several winter ports, and post-holiday flights into Florida and New Orleans can fill quickly, so drive-to travelers from nearby states have the most flexibility.
  • Check documentation for your itinerary. A valid passport book is typically recommended, though requirements vary by itinerary and citizenship. Always verify current documentation requirements with your cruise line and official government sources before your trip.

How to Find the Best Deals on U.S. Port Cruises

Norwegian Cruise Line pricing fluctuates based on demand, booking time, and availability. Here's how to time your booking:

  • Book early - Promotional fares often available 12-18 months in advance
  • Monitor price drops - Fares change weekly; set up deal alerts to track your preferred sailings
  • Consider shoulder season - January at winter ports, March from New York, May from Boston and September-October from Seattle have run lowest in CabinSaver's tracking
  • Avoid the port-specific peak - April from Miami and New Orleans, July from New York and Port Canaveral, and June from Seattle have carried the highest premiums
  • Compare nearby ports - Miami and Port Canaveral are about 200 miles apart but price summer very differently
